EMU Orchestra
This award-winning orchestra provides a fantastic experience for students, while also being an asset to the local community.
The fall concert series includes the large Gala Masterwork. The EMU Orchestra combines with the University Choir for a powerful performance. Previous years have included Beethoven's Symphony 9, Flagello's Passion of Martin Luther King, Jr., Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem, and the Requiems of Rutter and Fauré. They also participate in the end-of-semester Christmas concert.
In the spring semester, the winners of the annual Concerto/Aria competition perform with the orchestra in a popular concert. This provides an important experience for soloists, along with adding to the diverse repertoire the orchestra performs.
Harrisonburg's only community orchestra
Students play alongside community members, as this is also Harrisonburg's only community orchestra. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings, from 7-9pm in Lehman Auditorium during the normal school year.
The EMU Orchestra values collaboration, collegiality, and experiencing a variety of composer voices.
