Peacebuilding and Development studies equips students to think critically, clearly, and creatively about the most pressing global challenges and provides an opportunity for students to explore their passions, discover their vocation, and become an active and engaged member of their community. Peacebuilding and Development studies can lead to exciting careers and service at home and around the world. Students can focus on this content by majoring in Peacebuilding & Development or augment other programs with minors in International Development or Peacebuilding.

Practicum
- Our students learn to apply theoretical concepts and practical skills in a 150 hour practicum experience.
- Our students receive on-the-job training to reinforce classroom skills like mediation, conflict analysis, program evaluation, group facilitation, community assessment, and organization of campus and community events.
- Students have multiple options for completing practicums including international options, internships in Washington D.C. through the Washington Community Scholars’ Center, local options and placements in their home communities.
- Our students have completed their practicum with the US Department of Agriculture, World Vision, N. Street Village, EMU's Summer Peacebuilding Institute, The Fairfield Center, New Bridges Immigrant Resources Center, Maryland Citizens Against State Executions, and JMU's Mahatma Gandhi Center for Global Nonviolence.
Careers
- Our students find careers in community and international development, peacebuilding and conflict transformation, strategic program planning, monitoring and evaluation, social work, restorative justice, criminology, law, mediation, and social policy advocacy.
- Our graduates have worked for Mennonite Central Committee, Church World Service, Middle East Books and More, USAID, Habitat for Humanity, and Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society.
- Our graduates have pursued advanced studies at Princeton University, Northeastern University, Anabaptist Mennonite Theological Seminary, Iowa State University, George Washington University, and The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at Notre Dame, as well as EMU's Center for Justice and Peacebuilding.
