Music Scholarship & Audition Application

Music scholarships are available for all full-time Eastern Mennonite University undergraduate students. Live auditions may be scheduled at any point during the academic year. Video auditions may also be submitted by including a link to a YouTube video or Google drive video of your audition to auditions@emu.edu.

Students may audition for a scholarship before applying to EMU. However, students must apply and be admitted to EMU to be officially awarded a music scholarship. Scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis and students can typically expect to be notified about their audition results within two weeks. Students who receive a music scholarship will be required to participate in an EMU music ensemble. Students who play music styles or instruments that are not typically included in traditional ensembles are also welcome to audition for scholarships, and may participate in other music program activities for their scholarship with the approval of the music faculty.

Auditions at EMU are in a warm environment with friendly faculty who want to see you do your best.

Application Procedures

Complete an application for admission and gain admittance to EMU.
Register for an official in-person or virtual visit with EMU Admissions and specify a request to audition for a music scholarship.
Application and audition deadlines:
- December 1, 2026 (Spring 2027 enrollees)
- May 1, 2027 (Fall 2027 enrollees)

Audition Procedures and Requirements

Auditions at EMU are a simple process that is designed to allow you to feel comfortable and do your best.

Our only requirement is that you perform one piece that you feel best shows your ability on your primary instrument.

If you need an accompanist for your audition, a live accompanist can be provided by contacting the music office. Applicants will also have a brief conversation with music faculty members during their audition so that we can get to know you and you have the opportunity to ask our faculty any questions you may have. We really want you to feel comfortable doing your best.

- On-campus auditions are also available during campus open houses and admitted student days.
