Campus Life Staff

The Associate Dean of Campus Life, supervises the Campus Life staff (ACs, HDs, and CAs) while overseeing campus recreation and residential student conduct. The Associate Dean also supports many other university-wide committes including, but not limited to: Campus Activity Council (CAC), EMU's CARE Team.

Area Coordinators (ACs)

ACs

Area Coordinators are also members of the Campus Life and the university’s Student Life division. These are live-in roles, working closely with students and staff across campus. All ACs have earned at least a Bachelor's degree. They are carefully selected on the basis of their ability to provide leadership and facilitate interpersonal relationships among residents of the hall.

Some are full-time graduate students who serve as part-time staff in residence life, and many hold other positions within the university. ACs provide care and support, encourage mutual accountability to community standards, and help new students find belonging at EMU.

Hall Directors (HDs)

Hall Directors (HDs) supervise Community Advisors (CAs) and students. Student contact occurs primarily through informal counseling, educational and social programs, discipline administration, and friendships with residents. Hall Directors often leave their doors open and seek to build relationships with every member of their residence halls. Every week of the academic year, a Hall Director is on call 24 hours per day to respond to emergencies.

Only returning CAs can apply to be a HD, meaning that it is an internal hiring process in Campus Life. You must serve as a CA for at least one year to be considered.

Community Advisors (CAs)

CAs are student para-professional members of the Campus Life staff. Each residence hall is divided into units with student Community Advisors as leaders. CAs are carefully selected and trained to serve as peer support and community leaders on campus.

All students at EMU will recieve an email from housing@emu.edu advertising the application process in late January. Anyone who will be at least a sophomore in the next academic year, has a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.0, and has a clean student conduct record can apply to be a CA. All hiring takes place in March of each academic year.

If you have any questions, please contact your CA or HD directly.
