Entry assessments

Entry assessments are taken for admission to EMU’s teacher education program. Test codes and passing scores for these assessments are found in the Licensure and Program Exam Requirements PDF and in the teacher education handbook.

Praxis Subject Assessments Requirements

All students take a Praxis Subject Assessment before student teaching. Additionally the Teaching Reading: Elementary test is required for Early Childhood Education (PreK-3) and for Elementary Education (PreK-6) program areas. There are frequently changes to which assessments are required as the tests are updated by ETS and the Virginia Department of Education. Contact our office for qualifying tests and scores if you took an older test (such as a Praxis II test). Current information is outlined in the Licensure and Program Exam Requirements PDF and in the teacher education handbook.

EMU Praxis and VCLA Recipient Numbers

EMU’s Praxis institutional score recipient number is 5181. EMU’s Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) score recipient number is 011. Enter these codes when registering for your tests so EMU’s teacher education program will receive your test scores. (Note: official score reports are sent to the test taker only. You’ll need to provide a copy of your scores once you get them.)
