Our campus is located in the peaceful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in the United States. Our students represent diverse backgrounds from all over the world, including approximately 100 international students like you. EMU is well known for its 50+ programs of study that will challenge you to pursue your passion. All EMU students travel the world before they graduate through our renowned cross-cultural program.

EMU is located in the small, friendly city of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Here is a true sense of community here, as well as a large degree of cultural and linguistic diversity. Travel time to Washington D.C. is two hours.

A U.S. Degree from a private university is an investment in your future. EMU seeks to make this opportunity affordable by offering the International Student Grant, as well as a variety of merit-based academic scholarships. This covers between 10-50% of the cost of tuition. International students are also able to gain valuable experience and earn money through a variety of interesting jobs on campus.

OPT work authorization is available upon graduation. Three years for STEM fields. EMU's experienced staff will assist you each step of the way to apply for and maintain this work eligibility.

Living Arrangements

International students benefit from state-of-the-art housing in newly renovated residence halls. We provide on-campus housing during all holidays and over the summer months. Meals are available when school is in session in the Dining Hall, Royals' Den and Common Grounds Coffeehouse.

 Other admissions options:

  • If you need English studies first, begin with our Intensive English Program. Upon completion, receive automatic admission to EMU (and up to 15 credit hours toward your degree) without need of a TOEFL or IELTS!
  • If you are seeking admission to one of our graduate programs, you should contact the program directly.

Note: The International Student Referral Program is suspended effective January 2023 pending review.
