Did you decide you wanted to become a healthcare practitioner near the end of your undergraduate career or after you received your bachelor’s degree?

This means you may not have all of the necessary pre-health coursework to be prepared to take the MCAT, let alone apply to medical school. At other universities you could take additional classes at the undergraduate level and come away with simply more undergraduate coursework on your transcript; at EMU you can do this and earn a master's degree at the same time.

With a Master of Science in Premedicine, you will simultaneously take undergraduate and graduate level pre-health courses. By taking basic natural science courses and more advanced science, psychology, ethics, and research courses, you will be adequately prepared for the MCAT and the rigors of medical school.

The only prerequisites for this program are a minimum GPA of 2.7.

Note: To bypass the prerequisite matching in your PostBacCAS application, select the "I am not matching any courses to this prerequisite" for each of the requirements listed for the program. Doing so for each will complete the section so you can submit your application.

Plan of Study

Below is a typical plan of study for students enrolling in the master's in premedicine program who have not taken the appropriate pre-health courses required for medical or other professional health programs.  With this plan you will:

  • Complete lower-level undergraduate prerequisite courses
  • Prepare for the rigors of medical school with graduate-level courses
  • Learn background material to help you perform well on the MCAT

Two-year course plans will be tailored to fit each student’s needs. Below are course plan samples for students coming in with General Chemistry I and II only and for those who need all medical school requirements.
