Application and Admission

Biomedicine certificate and master's program entrance is based on:

• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a minimal undergraduate grade point average of 2.70. All course attempts will be included in the GPA calculation. (Gap Year Certificate applicants must have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0.)

Prerequisite coursework for pre-medical, pre-dental, and pre-veterinary applicants (8 courses, 32 hours total):

• Two general biology courses with laboratories (8 SH)
• Two general chemistry courses with laboratories (8 SH)
• Two organic chemistry courses with laboratories (8 SH)
• Two physics courses with laboratories (8 SH)

Prerequisite coursework for all other pre-professional health applicants (6 courses, 24 hours total):

• Two general biology courses with laboratories (8 SH)
• Two general chemistry courses with laboratories (8 SH)
• One organic chemistry course with laboratory (4 SH)
• One physics course with laboratory (4 SH)

Please consider our Master's in Premedicine program if you are missing three or more of these prerequisite courses or if you are needing to improve your academic understanding or grades in these courses.

Alternatively, applicants who are in need of only one or two of the above prerequisite courses can be granted provisional admittance to the master's program and can take those needed prerequisite courses while pursuing their graduate degree.

A completed application includes:

1. A completed EMU Graduate Application.

2. Two academic letters of recommendation, preferably one from a natural science professor from your most recent academic program; alternatively, one from a work supervisor is acceptable. Recommendation letters can take some time in acquiring; please contact your references immediately for your letter of support. 

3. Request official transcripts (not student copies) from each college or university you have attended through the Unviersity Registrar's Office. 

An admissions committee will evaluate student applications and make recommendations for admission.

• A Windows or Mac desktop or laptop computer with speakers, microphone, and a webcam.
• Windows 10 22H2[1] or Windows 11 Build 22H2 or newer • macOS 12.7.5 or newer (Win 10 version 22H2, Win 11 22H2 or macOS 14.5 or higher recommended.)[2] Please note that this data is accurate as of the date stated above for at least one calendar year.
• Audio headset with microphone attachment is required for all online live sessions

System requirements for Zoom

• Internet Access with a minimum connection speed of 100 mbps (300 mbps download speed or higher recommended). To test speed: Close all applications and other website tabs and conduct test by visiting: https://speedtest.net
• Students have had connection issues in past years using limited data cellular connections and/or lower speed home internet connections. This type of internet access will often have restrictive data caps that could result in unexpected overage fees due to the bandwidth required for online learning.

• Browser: Firefox – https://firefox.com (recommended); Other browsers may work but Moodle prefers Firefox.
