Community Testing for Non-EMU Students/Alumni (DSST, MAT, Proctored Tests)
Community testers are now taking CLEP tests through EMU’s Career Services Office – view testing page for scheduling, and additional information.
Tests
EMU offers community testers computer-based testing services for DSST and MAT. Proctoring services are also available for students taking web-based or paper-based tests from another university.
Schedule
During the academic year, testing appointments are available Monday through Friday. During the summer months, please call for available testing times. Our schedule fills up quickly (there is only 1 testing computer) so call well in advance to secure an appointment. Test length: DSST – 2 hours, MAT – 1 hour, Proctored tests – based on time allowed by course.
Cost
DSST: $50 non refundable registration fee + $100 test fee (pay test fee with credit card
at time of test)
MAT: $50 non refundable registration fee + $75 test fee ($125 combined total to EMU)
Proctored Tests: $50 non refundable registration/test fee
After scheduling, registration fee must be paid in advance by visiting the website below, all fees may be paid with credit card.
What to Bring
A valid government issued photo ID with signature, a second form of ID, and credit card for test fee (DSST). Scrap paper and pencils are provided. Check test websites below to determine whether additional items are needed for your test.

Registration
Due to staffing changes in the Academic Success Center, community members should temporarily contact Kimberly Phillips, 540-432-4131, EMU Career Services, for DSST and MAT scheduling.
Contact the Academic Success Center, 540-432-4254 weekday mornings to register for an available timeslot. After confirmation of test date and time, please pay registration fees through the Online Payment Form.

Additional: There is a small gray sign by road that says Hartzler Library. Free parking available in the parking lot on the south side of the library. After parking, walk to north side of building and enter main entrance on second floor – you may use steps on east side of building or raised walkway on west side (for use with wheelchairs). After entering main entrance, enter stairwell to right and go to third floor (elevator access available). Keep turning to right and go to far northwest corner to Academic Success Center.
