Elsewhere is the collaborative effort of EMU alumna photography major, Lila Marks ('18), and alumna digital media/art major, Stephanie Toth ('16). The show was open from Oct. 15 - Nov. 6, 2020.

Artists' Statement

Are you still there?

The past steals the present and the present yearns for the future.

The seemingly insignificant moments of youth puncture and envelop until all we are left with is loss. A pit, a hole, a fracture. The ability to be present is lost. Marred by life, these familiarities become soaked in sludge, echoes of what once was.

What among you lingers from youth?

In a society under extreme stress, this show explores two diverse perspectives of what we hold with us.

The scars of paint and the muted individuals scream at each other: what is left. A cacophony of emotion emerges. A conversation begins. The small, quiet moments pierce through and make claim of the present.

How can we hold onto memory and lose ourselves?
