Creating Persistent Links

EMU uses a variety of database providers and each treats persistent links in a unique way. The images below will help you create links for your students. For off campus access you will need to place "https://hartzler.emu.edu/login?url=" before any other URL. Some databases include this in their link.
This page has information on linking from EBSCOhost databases as well as Gale, Oxford Reference Online and Blackwell.

If you need to link from a database not listed contact Jennifer Ulrich.

EBSCOhost

In EBSCOhost databases you will find the persistent link toward the bottem of each record. Look for "Persistent link to this record:" as seen in the image below. In EBSCOhost the proxy server information is already provided so users can access the article from off campus.

EBSCOhost

Gale

Gale databases use an "InfoMark" icon to show the persistent link. The icon appears at the top on the left side. Click on the icon and a new window opens with the link you will need to copy and paste. These urls are very long so be sure to copy the whole thing. These links do not includes the proxy server information (https://hartzler.emu.edu/login?url=) so be sure to add that information so students can access materials off campus.

Other links

You will need to follow the directions in the online help to link to the homepage of a book from Oxford Reference Online. The online help includes a list of URLs for each book which you will need to download to find the right url.

Oxford Reference Online

Blackwell Snyergy uses DOI ids for linking purposes. For these titles you should look for the DOI after the citation. In Blackwell where a DOI is known, it should be added to the DOI proxy URL http://dx.doi.org/ to create a persistent link. Be sure to include the EMU proxy server address first (https://hartzler.emu.edu/login?url=)
