Golden Alumni

The EMU Golden Alumni are made up of alumni who graduated more than 50 years ago. Every year at homecoming, the group welcomes those gathered for their 50-year reunion into the society through an induction ceremony.

Induction Ceremony

Although the induction ceremony is not required in order for one to be a Golden Alumni, it is a fun event that alumni look forward to every year. The ceremony often includes reflections from alumni about their life post-EMU and also almost always includes singing.

Golden Alumni Scholarship

The Golden Alumni Committee recognizes that there are students who want to attend EMU each year but can’t afford to pay the tuition. Our committee has provided $20,000 in seed funding to launch the Golden Alumni Scholarship Fund to directly assist students who want to attend EMU.

We invite existing and rising Golden Alumni to generously support the Golden Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund. Our goal is to raise at least $250,000 in the next five years with the ultimate goal of $1,000,000.  Five percent of the Fund’s principal value is distributed in scholarships every year in perpetuity so the long term impact for EMU students is significant.

Priority will be given to students who have demonstrated financial need and hardship. At least one scholarship will be awarded each year. The scholarship recipient(s) will be selected by the EMU Financial Aid office.

EMU will provide an annual report of funding activities which will include the name(s) of the scholarship recipient(s) to the Golden Alumni Committee.

To plan a gift that provides you with the most satisfaction, you are encouraged to contact Kirk Shisler, Vice President for Advancement, at 540-432-4499 or email him at kirk.shisler@emu.edu.

Board or Committee Membership

The Golden Alumni president is currently Gloria Horst Rosenberger, ‘70. Board or committee membership is appointed by the alumni office who invite alumni to serve in that capacity. However, the office always welcomes hearing directly from alumni who are interested in serving.
