Spain - Summer 2026
SPAIN offers many opportunities to explore history, culture, art and language. In addition to Spanish language study, we will walk one of the multiple ancient hiking/walking paths through rural landscapes and small towns In Northern Spain, which are often described as a “pilgrimage” path. This unique experience offers interaction and shared meals at hostels with other pilgrims from around the world.
Part I - First 3 weeks
You will study Spanish for 3 weeks at Estudio Sampere in Madrid. Students will live with local families arranged by the school. Estudio Sampere intentionally includes intercultural learning.
We will experience the culture, history, and contrasts of Spain. Many people in Spain do not speak English, so you will practice speaking Spanish, no matter your Spanish level.
Part II - Hiking the Camino de Santiago
For up to 8 days we will be walking on the Camino (8 – 12 miles per day) along a well-marked path with other pilgrims. We will pack our basic supplies in a backpack and eat and sleep at local hostels/albergues. Being able to walk long distances is expected, though the pace can be at a slow or medium pace. This part of the experience will end with a closing retreat near Santiago de Compestola, Spain.
As we interact with the cultures of Spain, we will challenge students to reflect on their own culture, and the cultural assumptions we all make about peoples from other places in the world.
Bring your sense of adventure, humility and curiosity to live and walk through many different parts of Spain. Students remain within Spain throughout the program, living and traveling with the group.
