What to expect from STAR Training

Learning Objectives

The goals for our time together are to become more proficient at facilitating spaces for truth-telling, justice-building, post-traumatic regrowth, and resilience. Our learning objectives are to:

  • Explore and share about how trauma affects our bodies, brains, beliefs, and behaviors
  • Discover how unexamined trauma responses can contribute to cycles of harm
  • Identify tools and strategies to strengthen resilience and dismantle cycles of violence
  • Deepen commitment and capacity for self and collective care and regeneration

Expected Outcomes

Using a variety of exercise platforms, we will explore what we can do to dismantle cycles of trauma and violence instead of being complicit with them. This includes:

  • Deep listening to our own bodies, settings and systems
  • Exchange ideas with other participants and leading thinkers in the field
  • Examine institutional interventions and organizational best practices
  • Explore how faith and spirituality can inform and shape outcomes

Snapshot agenda

Our session format is embodied and participatory using arts-based exercises, case studies, facilitated discussions, circle processes, music and movement, current media sharing, and times for guided reflection.

In-person weekend sessions will be structured around the following schedule:

Friday: 8:30a.m. - 4:30p.m.
Saturday: 8:30a.m. - 4:30p.m.
Sunday: 8:30a.m. - 12:30p.m.

Participants will be provided with ample time to reflect on their own personal journeys and practice environments. Together we will discover key strategies for fostering safety and transformation in our personal, work, and collective settings.
