Important Participant Information
If you are coming to EMU for a STAR training, you may need some of the information below. Please feel free to reach out with questions at email@example.com.
Application Fee: $50
Level I or Level II training after July 1, 2017: $995
Graduate Tuition Fee (MA level): 2 credit hour course: $1,614 ($735/credit hour as of July 1, 2017 plus $120 materials fee and additional fees based on number of total credit hours). See the graduate tuition and fees page for more information.
Participants pay either training or academic tuition fee.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and can be submitted up to the week prior to any given training as space permits. If you need to apply for a visa or make travel arrangements be sure to allow adequate time for these additional processes.
Due the generous gifts of donors, STAR awards a limited number of partial scholarships to assist participants. If you are interested in receiving a scholarship, please apply for the training and indicate your interest in a scholarship.
Trainings typically start each morning at 8:30 am and end each afternoon at 5 pm. On the last day, the training typically ends around 1:30 pm.
Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for their own housing. STAR does have a list of community members who rent rooms to short term visitors. Please contact us to receive the list. More information about local hotels and motels…
Estimated cost is $21.00 per day for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the EMU Dining Hall. Total cost is estimated at $105 per 5-day training session. Hours and prices of the dining hall are:
- Hot breakfast 7 – 9 a.m. $6.00
- Lunch 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. $7.00
- Supper/dinner 5 – 7 p.m. $8.00
There are a variety of local restaurants within walking distance from campus. Feel free to ask for directions!
There is no public transportation to Harrisonburg from local airports. Once in Harrisonburg, there is local bus and taxi service around town.
Travel to and from EMU
Airport Shuttle Services:
- The Green Shuttle
- The Valley Connector is great option for transportation from the airport. Please contact them directly from their website for a quote and to schedule. They are a local company that offers door to door shuttle service from and to Washington Dulles International Airport, National (Ronald Reagan) Airport, BWI, and Charlottesville Regional Airport.
- The Virginia Breeze is a bus service that leaves from various locations in Washington, DC and drops off in Harrisonburg.
Amtrak: 20 minutes away in Staunton, Va.
NOTE: Average cost for a rental car picked up at DC airports is $250 for one week.
Participants will be billed for their training fees through the EMU’s billing system. Please watch for an email containing your log-in information and an email notifying that your bill has been generated. If your organization is paying for your training, please log-in, view your invoice, and print the invoice to submit to your employer.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for STAR participants whose accrediting agency or board requires them. They are not academic credit. These CEUs are offered through EMU’s Provost’s Office and cost an additional $30. Participants are responsible for insuring their accrediting agency or board will accept these CEUs towards certification or licensure.
