Kevin Hamilton

Kevin HamiltonKevin Hamilton joined the University of Illinois in 2002, after completing graduate study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2000. With a background in the fine arts, Kevin earned his BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design, and spent his first several years at Illinois teaching Painting and New Media in the School of Art and Design. Kevin’s work as an artist and scholar has earned support from the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Illinois Arts Council. In addition to his art exhibition and commission career, Kevin has published on subjects including histories of technology and society and perception of bias in algorithmic systems. His book Lookout America!, a critical history of nuclear test films, will be out in Fall 2018, and is co-authored with Department of Communication professor Ned O’Gorman. He currently serves as Senior Associate Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Art at the University of Illinois, and has been applying knowledge gained from taking SPI classes to the creation of new processes for conflict transformation in a university setting.
