Peacebuilding Approaches to Violent Extremism
Participants will practice using a systems-based approach that explores 25 theories of change that correlate with violent extremism and compare three paradigms of response including counterterrorism, countering violent extremism (CVE), and peacebuilding. Using scenario-based learning, lectures, and case studies, participants will learn practical skills for programming a wide range of potential responses to violent extremism.
The course uses case studies of violent extremism from a wide range of contexts, including white nationalism in the US. Drawing from her 2018 edited book, The Ecology of Violent Extremism, the course includes readings by practitioners and researchers from around the world.
