Kenton Brubaker

POSITION: Professor Emeritus/Biology

Dr. Brubaker taught courses in soil science, horticulture, plant pest management, genetics and biochemistry. He helped launch the international agriculture program that included his popular food and population class. He also developed the basic plans for Suter Science Center, which was opened in 1968, and helped launch Earthkeepers, an environmental group on campus. Throughout his EMU tenure, Brubaker worked with Mennonite Central Committee’s international aid programs as a consultant, study tour leader and agriculture teacher. He also led a number of EMU’s cross-cultural programs.

For six years after his retirement, Brubaker stayed on at EMU to tend to his beloved arboretum, greenhouse, experimental gardens and Park Woods. He is active in the progressive congregation he helped establish—Shalom Mennonite.
