International and TCK Students

If you’re an international or TCK student we have a special orientation just for you as you prepare for study and life at EMU. We’ll help you acclimate to your new environment in a fun and fulfilling way. There’s a lot to learn but we’re with you every step of the way!

If you need airport pickup, please be sure to fill out our arrival form.

International and TCK Student Orientation 2019

Tuesday, August 20-Thursday August 22
  Residence Hall (dormitory) students move-in. Please coordinate with Micah to arrange arrival times to ensure timely access to your room.    
Thursday, August 22nd
1 p. m.  Check-in (ID cards if needed) University Commons Room 225 (Micah’s office)
2 p.m.   Welcome/introductions and coffee/tea/cold drinks break “Fishbowl” conference room, University Commons
2:30 p.m. Course Registration with Amy Springer Hartsell -- (free time for those who have already registered for classes. Also, shopping opportunities for those who need phone plans or essential items (sheets, towels, etc.).  
5:30 p.m. Dinner with EMU faculty and staff (family members and friends are invited and encouraged to join us) West Dining Hall
7 p.m. Ice Cream at Kline’s Dairy Bar -- Family, friends and relatives are invited to join us for a complimentary ice cream at this downtown Harrisonburg institution. Depart from University Commons main entrance on Park Rd.
Friday, August 23rd
8 a.m. Breakfast--Harrison House, Dayton, Virginia Depart from University Commons main entrance on Park Rd.
9:30 a.m. Immigration 101-- presentation followed by Q&A. (Please bring your passport, I-20 and know your residential address/dorm room number for this session)  
 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Campus photo/video scavenger hunt and presentations. This is a fun way of getting to know your way around EMU’s campus and win EMU swag.  
 12 p.m.  Lunch at Wood Grill Buffet  
 1-3 p.m. Tour de ‘burg – A tour of some of Micah’s favorite spots in Harrisonburg.  
 3 p.m. Depart for hiking and cookout at High Knob or Reddish Knob.  
 Saturday, August 24th 
8-8:30 p.m. Breakfast with International Orientation Peer Assistants (IOPAs)  EMU Dining Hall
 8:30-rest of weekend  Continue with orientation schedule for residential students
