Before coming to EMU, Dr. Shenk taught theology courses at Meserete Kristos College in Ethiopia for 14 years. During his EMU career, when he was selected “teacher of the year” in 1982, he was praised for helping change the lives of his students. Shenk is an expert on Jewish-Christian relations and for eight years during his teaching career at EMU he spent each spring semester in Jerusalem as a research scholar at Tantur Ecumenical Institute. Two of the books he authored are When Kingdoms Clash: Christians and Ideologies and Who do You Say That I am? Christians Encounter Other Religions.
In retirement, Shenk continues to explore the biblical, geographical and cultural history of Israel and Palestine.
