Dr. Yoder came to EMU after teaching in the French language in Congo (Kinshasa). Later, during a two-year leave from EMU, he was a Fulbright lecturer (in French) at Marien Ngouabi University in Congo (Brazzaville). At EMU, he taught a variety of courses in French language and literature. A pioneer in the college’s innovative cross-cultural program, Yoder led numerous French-oriented study experiences in France, Quebec and Ivory Coast. He also was involved in the Writers Read program that brought noted authors to EMU. His publications included a book titled White Shadows: A Dialectical View of the French/African Novel.
In retirement, Yoder is active in a local church that he helped to establish—Shalom Mennonite.
