I was born and raised in Northwest Iowa. I moved to the east coast right after high school. I met my husband, Chris when I lived in the Washington, D.C. area. We have been married for 32 years and have been blessed with four children. Carrigan (30), Jackson (26) and his wife Samantha, Jane (22) and her husband Nathan and Annie (20). Both Chris and I started our higher education journeys with these four in tow, Annie being a new born. Chris now has an Doctorate in Education. I completed my Associates Degree at WorWic Community College in Salisbury, MD in 2006 (I was 41 years old), my BSN in 2008 and my MSN in 2011. I took a much needed five year break from my own education, moved from the Eastern Shore of Maryland to Lancaster, PA in 2011 and started my PhD in 2015. I have finished the course work and am now writing the prospectus/proposal for my dissertation! It is very exciting! I hope to finish by late 2020.

As far as my nursing work, from the onset of my associates degree program I knew I wanted to be an educator so I worked in as many situations as I could to learn as many aspects of nursing as I could. I started as a cardiac, telemetry, ICU stepdown nurse. I then became a "flex" nurse where I worked in every department except ICU and labor and delivery. I have done camp nursing (9 summers), long term care, nursing supervision and management, hospice, supervision and management and nursing education in programs from LPN to RN, BSN and MSN. All of these great experiences have given me a plethora of great object lessons to tell my students.

I share all of this with you because I know that most of our RN-BS students have similar stories; working, caring for children and parents, active in churches and community.... Adding higher education seems crazy, doesn't it? Honestly though, it is the best thing I ever did. I have grown so much as a person - a wife, a mother, a nurse, a church member, a community advocate.... It is/was worth every bit of it. My children watched the entire progression and have learned that my education was not something I did "to them" but something I did "for them." Our entire family has been blessed.

Please, any past, present or future student - I would LOVE to hear from you!!! Please email me anytime or call my office 717-690-8613. If you would like to make an appointment to meet in person, via zoom or telephone please access my calendar.
