I began my nursing career after earning my BSN from Georgetown University. I was eager to start my career at Georgetown University Hospital in the NICU where I worked for nine years before moving to York, PA. I loved the babies and working with their parents, but when my daughter entered kindergarten, I begain to consider a career change to school nursing. Volunteering in her school was such a sharp contrast to the critical care enviroment of the NICU. I worked for a year in the NICU in York as I further considered a change to school nursing and took time to shadow the school nurse in my district to ensure that it was the direction in which I wanted to move. I found EMU's Certified School Nurse program and applied right away. I was hired by a school district within a month of the program starting and have been happily serving middle school students for the last six years. I stayed with EMU to earn my Master's degree in nursing leadership and am honored to be back with the department of nursing as a faculty member and School Nurse Certification Program Coordinator.
