Kris has taken graduate level classes in English as a Second Language, and is certified to teach ESL. She also has training in deaf education and sign language interpreting. Kris taught elementary school for 22 years and interpreted for deaf students in schools. She loves learning languages. She has studied Hindi, French, Haitian Creole, German, and American Sign Language. Kris attended Woodstock School (an international boarding school) in India as a child, and has had many other cross cultural experiences including attending a Study Service Term (with Goshen College) in Haiti, working on the planning team for Mennonite World Conference PA 2015 children's program, serving on a refugee support team, and volunteering with Church World Services. Kris is inspired by the determination and eagerness to learn that she sees in her students in the Intensive English Program here at EMU!
