STEM Scholarship

Fall 2025-26

The National Science Foundation (NSF) S-STEM Scholarship seeks to increase and understand the success of high-achieving students with demonstrated financial need who are pursuing associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The scholarship includes:

  • Unmet financial need up to $15,000 annually for the length of degree
  • Paid one-week bridge to college program
  • STEM-mentorship program
  • Paid STEM-tutoring opportunities
  • 8-week paid internship
  • Free conference attendance
  • Park Woods (EMU's on-campus woods) forest restoration opportunities

Application Process

Complete an undergraduate application to EMU and submit your high school transcript. Once admitted to EMU, submit your scholarship application at the link above and have your reference form by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Contact your admissions counselor if you have any questions.

Your reference should be from a current or former teacher, preferrably in a STEM subject, or a school counselor. It is recommended that you give yourself plenty of time to work on this application (don't wait until the last week). Request your reference as early as possible to give them time to also complete their form by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, February 9, 2025. Complete the reference form here.

Applicants need to have the application and reference forms submitted by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, February 9, 2025:

The application process will culminate with an online interview with STEM faculty members. Interviews will take place Tuesday, February 11th and run through Sunday, February 23rd. Winning candidates will be notified mid-spring semester of their selection.

Timeline

  • FAFSA Submitted Deadline for Priority Review: Sunday, February 2, 2025
  • Applications due by 11:59p Eastern Time on Sunday, February 9, 2025
  • Interviews with faculty begin virtually on Tuesday, February 11th and run through Sunday, Feb 23rd 
  • Interview registration deadline is 11:59p on Sunday, February 16th

Eligibility

Must meet all requirements.

  • U.S. citizens, permanent residents, nationals, or lawfully admitted refugees
  • Students who demonstrate financial need (Pell-eligible)

    • Biochemistry
    • Biology
    • Chemistry
