Leadership and Organizational Management (Degree Completion)
Admission Requirements
- A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.
- Current employment or involvement with an organization that enhances the learning outcomes of the program.
- Submission of a satisfactory writing sample.
- Our experienced enrollment counselor will work with you to develop an individualized academic plan for degree completion.
- A minimum of 48 semester hours of transfer credits. (Can transfer up to 80 credits with approval)
The following are options for obtaining the necessary transfer credits:
- Credit may be transferred from an accredited technical, community or four-year college or school.
- A portfolio of American Council on Education (ACE) approved professional schools or training may be submitted for semester hour credits. Additionally, life-learning experiences that related directly to EMU required curriculum may be submitted for evaluation. - College-level examination (CLEP) or DSST (formerly Defense Activity for Nontraditional Students or DANTES) testing is also an alternative to obtain course credits. (Add to our CLEP LINK)

Online Graduate Degrees

Doctor of Ministry
The Doctor of Ministry degree is currently pending accreditation approval by the Association for Theological Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The application is currently available, but applicants won't be reviewed until the spring, once accreditation has been approved.
Admission Requirements
- An MDiv from an accredited school with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and at least three years of full-time ministry activity since completion of the master’s degree.
- EMS will not extend opportunities for transfer credit into this doctoral program.
- Students who do not hold an MDiv will be considered for admission if they have been in the practice of ministry for at least five years after earning their master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. These students will be required to demonstrate or attain MDiv equivalency through additional graduate work in theological studies to ensure their preparation in biblical studies, church history, systematic theology, practical theology, spiritual formation, and field education.
Application Requirements
- A complete application for the Doctor of Ministry program.
- Three references: 1) ecclesial, 2) academic, 3) applicant's choice.
- An academic writing sample of at least 2000 words, either full paper or excerpt from a theological graduate course demonstrating scholarly writing and research with citations. If no recent/theological education, must produce a 5-page writing sample in which you identify and defend how you would form a biblical, theological, and ecclesial approach to a topic in peacemaking and social change and identify, utilize, and properly cite a minimum of three scholarly academic references.
- A personal statement of 750-1000 words responding to the following prompts:
- Describe relevant personal, academic and ministry experiences. What have you learned about yourself as a leader through those experiences?
- Describe your role and your current ministry context. How do you expect to integrate DMin learnings and research with that community?
- Describe your interest in peacemaking and social change. What are your goals for seeking a DMin in this area?

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
Admission Requirements
- Master’s in Nursing from a CCNE- or NLNAC-accredited program or any master’s in a
business/health-related degree (e.g. MPH, MBA, MHA) from a regionally accredited school,
with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher
- If the applicant’s Bachelor’s degree is not in nursing, the Master’s degree must be in nursing.
- If the Master’s degree is not in Nursing, applicants must hold a bachelors degree in nursing. Co-Directors will review the applicant’s transcripts and professional experience for evidence of meeting the MSN Essentials.
- Non-MSN applicants must be working in the field of nursing/healthcare (either directly or indirectly).
- The program will be longer than 33 credits if the master’s degree is not in nursing.
- Provide documentation of post-baccalaureate supervised practice hours from an accredited MSN program. If there are fewer than 400 supervised practice hours, the DNP program will be tailored to achieve the required 1,000 hours of post-baccalaureate supervised practice.
- Evidence of an unencumbered RN license in the state of practice
- Evidence of currency in nursing practice

in a DNP program. Individuals completing the reference form should be from among the following:
- nurse faculty member who has knowledge of the applicant’s academic ability;
- a professional work-related colleague or supervisor;
- if practicing as an APRN, at least one should be from an APRN;
- if practicing as a nurse leader/executive, one should be from a supervisor who can address the applicant’s leadership abilities.
- Personal essay of 500 words or less that explains the applicant’s career goals related to pursuing the clinical doctorate. The essay addresses the applicant’s current thoughts on their preferred focus for the evidenced-based scholarly project.
- Current resume or curriculum vitae
- Interview with program co-director via video conference

Admission Requirements

- Preference is given to those with at least two years of experience in mediation, community development or relief work, advocacy, restorative justice, working with traumatized populations or related areas.
- Those who do not meet that criteria, but, have extensive experience in the peacebuilding field, are encouraged to apply; the applicant may be conditionally admitted.

Trauma and Resilience in Educational Environments
Admission Requirements
MA in Education and Graduate Certificate admission is based on:
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a minimal undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 (based on 4.0). (If this condition is not met, graduate GPA of six or more credits will be considered.)
- A teaching or specialist license (Not required)
- A personal interview with the associate director of the Graduate Teacher Education program.
Admission into the program is granted by the teacher education admissions committee. Upon admission into the program, each student will be assigned an academic advisor. Students unable to meet the requirements for regular admission may be recommended for conditional admission
