Skip holds an MA in Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University (2007), and an MS in LIS and HCI/UX (human-computer interaction/user experience) from Drexel University (2023). He earned his BA in English from Messiah College.

He recently moved to Harrisonburg from the banks of the Rappahannock River—just six miles upstream from the Chesapeake Bay—where he taught English and humanities at Christchurch School, an Episcopal boarding and day school, and served as the librarian.
