Track & Field is truly a microcosm of the world we live in. The sport creates a diverse community by bringing together people of all races, ethnicity, genders, abilities, social and economic backgrounds. This new track complex will have the greatest impact on the most number of people of any investment the university could make.
~ Bob Hepler, Track and Field Head Coach
The new Track and Field Complex will produce many benefits for EMU students and the program including:
- •Accommodate a roster of 75+ student-athletes.
- •Impact a large number of students through the athletic experience.
- •Increase diversity in the student body.
- •Enhance university enrollment and retention strategies. One such opportunity is our ability to host high school events and track and field camps. Note: Track and field is the most popular high school sport among girls (500,000 participants in the U.S.) and second among boys (600,000 participants).
- •Host ODAC and NCAA championship meets, along with regular season home meets. This also results in cost savings due to reduction of travel costs.
- •Benefit the wellbeing of our community (the complex will be open to the community at certain times of the day).
