"Perceptions of Self is a contemplation of the multifaceted ways individuals see and are seen by others. These mixed media photographs explore the intricacies of human identity - how you perceive yourself vs how others see you. The series unravels the complexities that arise when these perspectives clash or harmonize.
I blend traditional and contemporary techniques, beginning with a monochromatic studio photograph. Then I use an alternate-process "fresco" technique to transfer the image from plastic to wood (the image results are intentionally imperfect). I use my synesthetic intuition to transform the image into a conceptual composition. Using oil paints, markers, and other mixed media, I showcase the subject’s self-described internal and external identity, turning abstractions of my imagination into a tangible representation. I transfer each piece to a wooden canvas with the right side of the portrait revealing the individual’s unfiltered thoughts and the left narrowing how the individual believes others perceive them—a portrayal shaped by societal interactions and interpersonal dynamics."
