Kevin J. Dyck
Instructor of history
Dyck earned a BA in German and philosophy at Bethel College, N. Newton, Kan., and an MA in philosophy from the University of Kansas. He is currently a PhD candidate in philosophy at the University of Kansas. Dyck has taught independent sections of "Introduction to Philosophy," "Introduction to Ethics" and "Western Civilization." He has studied in Germany and speaks German fluently.
Lareta H. (Reta) Finger
Senior professor of Bible and religion
Dr. Finger earned a BS in elementary education from EMU and holds an MEd in guidance and counseling from Boston University. She received an MATS in biblical studies from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary and an MTS in biblical Studies from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and a PhD in New Testament from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and Northwestern University. Finger was a faculty member at Messiah College, Grantham, Pa., for 14 years and has taught numerous Bible and seminary courses at EMU and EMS. She is the author of several books and is a frequent speaker and workshop leader at national conferences, churches and women’s groups.
Maureen M. Gallon
Instructor of education
Gallon earned a BA in education from the University of New Orleans and an MA in education from Tulane University. She is a reading specialist in the area of diagnosis and remediation of reading abilities and difficulties in students. She has served as an early literacy trainer, consultant and an instructor in adult basic education. Most recently, Gallon has been the museum education director of EMU’s D. Ralph Hostetter Museum of Natural History in the Suter Science Center.
Teresa J. Haase
Associate professor of counselor education, MA in counseling program
Dr. Haase earned a BA in English and secondary education and an M and EdS in counseling psychology from James Madison University. She holds a PhD in counseling from The George Washington University. Haase has taught at JMU and GWU and earlier taught English at Broadway (VA) High School. Clinical work has included Mary Washington University Counseling and Psychological Services, Catholic Charities, the College Student and Development Center at JMU and the GWU Community Counseling Services Center.
Cheree Hammond
Assistant professor of counseling, MA in counseling program
Dr. Hammond earned a BS in political science at Mesa State College, an MA as an education specialist from James Madison University and a PhD in counselor education from the University of Virginia. She has taught part time at James Madison University and has experience in directing counseling programs.
Teresa P. Hartmann
Instructor of Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCP) nursing, EMU at Lancaster (PA)
Hartman earned BS and MS in nursing degrees M.S. from Millersville (PA) University and is currently pursing a PhD in nursing at Widener University. She has experience as an advanced practice nurse and as an educator at Lancaster General Hospital and has been serving as an adjunct nursing instructor in the RN-BS program at EMU at Lancaster.
Erica J. Lewis
Assistant professor of nursing
A graduate of EMU’s nursing program, Lewis completed an MS in nursing at the University of Virginia and is currently pursuing a PhD in philosophy in nursing at UVA. She brings experience as a staff nurse at Rockingham Memorial and UVA and previously taught in EMU’s nursing department, 2006-08.
Jenny M. Martin
Instructor of education
Martin earned a BS in English and secondary education from Radford University and an MA in education degree from EMU. She has experience as an instructor and a reading coach with Rockingham County schools and has served as an adjunct in the education department at EMU since 2000.
Joni S. Sancken
Assistant professor of preaching and practical theology, Eastern Mennonite Seminary
Dr. Sancken earned a BA in communications from Goshen (IN) College, an MDiv from Princeton (NJ) Theological Seminary and a PhD in homiletics from Toronto School of Theology. She recently completed a post-doctoral fellowship in practical theology and religious practices at Chandler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Her pastoral experiences include internships at Perkasie (Pa.) Mennonite Church, St. James United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Mo., and Germantown Mennonite Church in Philadelphia.
Carolyn J. Stauffer
Assistant professor of applied social sciences
Dr. Stauffer earned a BA in social work from EMU and a MA in public administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition, Stauffer completed a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Stauffer has lectured in the areas of missions, Bible and the humanities. She also brings extensive experience in giving presentations, trainings and seminars while serving with her husband Carl Stauffer with Mennonite Central Committee in South Africa.
Carl D. Stauffer
Assistant professor of development and justice studies, Center for Justice and Peacebuilding (CJP)
Dr. Stauffer earned a BA in social work with minors in Bible and religious studies and a MA in conflict transformation with a concentration in restorativ
e justice at EMU. Stauffer also holds a PhD in conflict resolution and peace studies from the University of Kwa-Zulu in South Africa. He brings extensive experience as the coordinator of Mennonite Central Committee’s regional peace network in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has served as a peace education and training coordinator in Johannesburg and as an associate pastor in Richmond, Va.
Dee A. Weikle
Assistant professor of computer science
Dr. Weikle received a BS in electrical engineering and a BA in computer science from Rice University and an MA and a doctorate in computer science from the University of Virginia. Weikle brings experience as an adjunct professor and research scientist in the computer science department at UVa.
