The Eastern Mennonite University Chamber Singers have announced a spring break tour March 4-8, 2022. The group will perform in Pennsylvania at various churches and a retirement community, as well as at chapel and classes at Dock Mennonite Academy and Lancaster Mennonite School. They’ll also stop in Washington DC for a final performance at Washington Community Fellowship.
The program features selections on the theme of “Day and Night,” an exploration of human experience across time and in the light and the dark. Professor Benjamin Bergey, director of the group, noted one program highlight as an excerpt from a James Agee poem “Sure On This Shining Night.”
“This is a gorgeous song that sits in the space between wholeness, life, and health, as well as withering death,” he said.
The select vocal group performs choral arrangements from various periods, styles and cultures. Music and non-music majors are included.
The ensemble has toured every year with the exception of 2021.
“Going on tour as a music ensemble is a great experience for bonding and community-building,” Bergey said. “I’m excited for the students to experience that this year. It’s also meaningful to sing for many audiences, to share our music and message, and I’m grateful we’ll be able to do that again.”

Benjamin , how excited I am for you and your Chamber Singers. Of the activities and commitments that I had to ” give up ” was the advisory board to the BFSV. I miss being among such committed volunteers and talented musicians. Gods blessing on you and your endeavors.
I love “Sure on this shining light”! Need to find somebody to fund a trip to Florida so we in Sarasota can hear you also!
