EMU Aware of Allegations Against Men’s Volleyball Coach

Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) head men’s volleyball coach Gary Moore is facing charges related to an alleged misdemeanor sexual battery case in Chesapeake, Va., where he was employed in a non-volleyball related position prior to beginning his role at EMU in fall 2012.

Dr. Ken L. Nafziger, vice president for student life who oversees athletics, reports that neither Moore nor EMU were aware of any potential legal charges when Moore was hired. EMU completed a criminal background check prior to the hire, which is standard for new EMU employees.

“We are aware of the pending legal action and are waiting to hear the outcome of the legal proceedings,” says Nafziger. “When the proceedings are complete, we will respond appropriately.”
