It’s time to turn off the television, disconnect from Facebook, put away the cell phone and reconnect with YOU!
“Screen-Free Sabbath,” sponsored by the Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) student life division’s Sustain YOU! initiative, focuses on care of self and prioritizing a balanced life. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate as individuals or groups and be free of items that block you from Sabbath, a time of rest and renewal.
“‘Screen-free Sabbaths’ have allowed me to feel physically healthier, more productive and successful academically, and created space that has helped me grow in my spiritual life,” said Tim Heishman, a senior at EMU. “I am convinced that an overabundance of technology in a person’s life leads to impatience, irritability, stress, anxiety, a lack of productivity, and doesn’t allow for the solitude that is essential to a spiritual relationship with God.”
