EMU is inviting Virginia resident students to discover the delectable menu of educational opportunities available right in their own back yard.
EMU is among 25 schools participating in the 14th annual Virginia Private College Week, July 26-31, 2010, sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV).
Visit three, apply for free
Rising high school juniors and seniors who visit three Virginia private colleges July 26-31 will receive application fee waivers redeemable at any three private colleges in CICV.
Last year, CICV colleges reported some 3,100 campus visitors during the last week of July.
EMU will offer a campus tour and information sessions about admissions, financial aid and academic programs.
Sessions at most colleges will begin at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 31. Families are encouraged to call the university beforehand and make an appointment.
Campus visit important step in college search
“Visiting campuses in person is one of the most important steps in the college search process,” said Robert Lambeth, CICV president.
“I encourage parents to explore which college will be the best fit for their son or daughter, and I want to reassure them that a quality education at a Virginia private college is affordable and within reach.”
Private college more affordable than most think
A private college education is more affordable than many families think, Lambeth stated. Last year, private colleges gave students close to $400 million in scholarships and grants.
In addition, all full-time students from Virginia attending a Virginia private college are eligible to receive a $ 2,600 state grant Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) for a maximum of four years.
