Brooke Hensley (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) was Ms. Clutch last week for Eastern Mennonite as she helped the Lady Royals softball squad extend their winning streak to 10 games. On Monday, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference recognized her as well, naming Hensley the ODAC Player of the Week in softball.
Freshman Brooke Hensley was named ODAC Player of the Week for her big outing against Frostburg State.
In Thursday’s sweep of Frostburg State, a fellow 2010 NCAA Tournament qualifier, Hensley batted 7-8 from the plate (.875) with eight RBIs and three runs scored.
She racked up seven of those RBIs in the nightcap, a mercy-shortened win. All of her RBIs came with two outs. She had a pair of two-run singles, and then ended the game in the sixth, emptying the loaded bases with a triple to seal the 15-5 score. Hensley finished the game 4-5 with seven RBIs.
In an 8-3 win in the first game, the shortstop was 3-3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI.
The Lady Royals are 15-7 on the season, having won 10 in a row including six in ODAC play. After having two twinbills postponed last week, the women return to conference play Tuesday, March 29, when they host Sweet Briar.
First pitch at Gehman Field in Harrisonburg is at 3:00pm.
