EMU’s Department of Natural Sciences welcomes two new faculty members for the 2026-27 academic year:
Dr. Megan Moran, assistant professor of environmental science
Dr. Moran is a wildlife ecologist who completed her master’s degree in environmental science at Christopher Newport University and her PhD in fish and wildlife conservation at Virginia Tech, where her research focused on wildlife population and disease dynamics, with a particular emphasis on bats affected by white-nose syndrome. Using long-term acoustic monitoring and spatial modeling methods, she investigates patterns of bat occupancy, activity, and persistence across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Her work aims to better understand how bat populations are responding to disease and changes in their environment and how long-term monitoring can help inform wildlife conservation.
Dr. Andrea Nord, associate professor of biology
Dr. Nord earned her BA at Goshen College and her MS and PhD in ecology from Penn State University. She and her husband spent three years in Honduras with Mennonite Central Committee, working on community environmental concerns at the village level. She comes to EMU with 13 years of teaching environmental biology at Greenville University, and with her husband has co-taught summer courses in forest ecology and sustainable tropical agriculture courses for the Au Sable Institute for nine years. Her favorite part of teaching is getting students outside into God’s creation.
