Eastern Mennonite University midfielder Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) has been selected to play in a national senior all-star game.
The 2017 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) D-III Senior Game roster was announced today, with Augsburger named as one of 72 student-athletes selected as either participants or alternates for the contest held on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky.
Augsburger is the first Eastern Mennonite University player selected to the team since Alyssa Derstine in 2009.
A two-time All-ODAC First Team honoree over her first three seasons, Augsburger has continued her incredible play as a senior. Despite being used in more of a defensive role this season, she is tied for third on the team with three goals and fourth with seven points. Over her career, Augsburger has 13 goals and nine assists, adding two game-winning goals and two defensive saves.
Field hockey coach Ashley Kisner noted that her senior has started all 63 of her career games and been a tremendous leader while also studying in EMU’s challenging nursing program.
“Augs has stuck it out and remained a leader on the field while having three different head coaches,” said Kisner. “Her determination and drive to succeed is very apparent on the hockey field. She has stepped up and played midfield, defense, and attack, depending on where she was needed each year. She is the true epitome of a team player. It has been a pleasure to coach her in her final season as a Royal.”
The Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Senior Game will be played as part of the Final Four of the NCAA National Championship. The semifinals are Nov. 17 with the Championship on Nov. 19. The Senior Game will be on Nov. 18, starting at 5:00pm.
A total of 60 players were selected for the game, with 12 named as alternates. Augsburger is one of only two Old Dominion Athletic Conference players selected to the roster of 60, joined by Randolph-Macon goalie Kelsey Stanley. Washington and Lee midfielder Maggie Sands is an alternate.
