Fresh off their most wins in five years, EMU’s field hockey women were well represented on the All-ODAC Teams announced by the conference today. Two Royals earned an honor for the second straight year, while two others claimed their first award.
Junior Emily Augsburger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) claimed a back-to-back spot on the All-ODAC First Team as a defender. She not only helped the defense post three shutouts, but Augsburger was also a versatile weapon on offense, finishing second on the team with seven goals. Adding three assists, she totaled 17 points. All three of the categories were career highs. Augsburger scored the game-winning goal in the 3-2 overtime win over Randolph-Macon on Oct. 26, and added a defensive save to be one of just six women in the ODAC to chart both a game-winner and a defensive save.
Senior midfielder Lorraine Armstrong (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) moved up to the All-ODAC Second Team in her final season after being All-ODAC Third Team in 2015. A captain for Eastern Mennonite, Armstrong had career highs across the board, finishing with six goals, five assists and 17 points. She led the Royals in assists, and stuck in game-winners against Wilson and Transylvania. Armstrong also finished her career on a high note, scoring a game-tying goal against regular season champ Lynchburg in her final game.
Senior Hannah Daley (Lothian, Md./Southern) and freshman Emily Price (Hampton, Va./Homeschool) each landed on the All-ODAC Third Team.
After playing five games in the field, Daley took over as the team’s goalie over the final seven games. EMU went 3-4 over that final stretch, and Daley earned three double digit save efforts. She racked up a career high 20 saves in the season finale against Lynchburg. Despite the limited amount of time between the pipes, Daley was eighth in the ODAC with 68 saves, and third in ODAC-only games with 64. She was also third in the league with a .782 save percentage.
In her first season, Price made an immediate impact for Eastern Mennonite on top of the offense. She racked up 15 goals and 34 points, finishing fourth in the ODAC in each category, and was tied for second on the team with four assists. Price’s stick-handling up front helped stretch the opposition’s defense and earned her three hat tricks and five multi-goal games. She had game-winners against Notre Dame (Md.) and Sweet Briar, and was the highest-scoring freshman in the ODAC.
The Royals finished with a record of 7-10, four more wins than last year and the most since 2011.
