Steven D. Johnson Two Eastern Mennonite University faculty members are attending a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute for College and University Teachers, June 5-30, at Ferrum (VA) College.
Steven D. Johnson, assistant professor of art and communication, and Tara L. Kishbaugh, assistant professor of chemistry, are among 19 faculty members from around the country taking part in the month-long program entitled, “Regional Study and the Liberal Arts: An Appalachian Exemplar.”
Tara L. Kishbaugh Representing and drawing from a range of disciplines and meeting both on campus and in community settings, Institute participants will examine Appalachian issues that link regional study to the liberal arts. Teachers selected for the NEH Summer Institute will each receive $3,000 stipends.
Principal institute faculty are Dwight Billings, Cece Conway, Richard Couto, Denise Giardina, Patricia Johnson, Frank Kilgore, George Loveland, Susan Mead, Roddy Moore, Vaughan Webb, David Whisnant and Daniel Woods. The director is Peter Crow.
