Theater at Eastern Mennonite University will present a student-directed comedy, “Nunsense!” 7:30 p.m. Feb. 16-18 and Feb. 23-25 and 2 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Studio Theater on ground floor of the University Commons.
The play within a play, directed by EMU senior theater major Elizabeth M. Risser, is the winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards, including “Best Off-Broadway Musical” in its original New York production.
The story revolves around a fund raiser put on by the Little Sisters of Hoboken to raise money to bury sisters accidently poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia. Featuring styles ranging from tap dancing to gospel, Dan Goggins’s musical comedy has delighted audiences across the country.
“‘Nunsense’ is basically five outrageous nuns going crazy onstage and having a blast. Who wouldn’t want to see that?” said Marissa L. Benner, a freshman nursing major from Harrisonburg who plays Sister Leo. “Beth (Risser) is an incredible director. “Our cast is five extremely diverse actresses, and yet we love being together.”
Advance tickets are $4 and are available from the EMU box office, 540-432-4582. Admission at the door is $5.
