The Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir (SVCC) celebrates the Christmas season and “A Child of God” on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m., in Eastern Mennonite University’s (EMU) Lehman Auditorium.
“The concert theme, A Child of God, was inspired by one of my first meetings with the staff of the SVCC,” said Jo-Anne van der Vat-Chromy, newly appointed interim music director of the SVCC. “As an educator, holiday programs have the task of celebrating the spirit of the season, both religiously and culturally, through the richness of choral literature of the season. This year, it became clearly apparent that as we jubilantly celebrate the birth of the Christ child, we too want all of “our” children – the choristers of the SVCC – to know, feel and remember what our theme song of the concert so jubilantly proclaims – ‘If anybody asks you who I am, tell him I’m a child of God.'”
The SVCC will be joined by guest artist Dr. Pedro Aponte, flute, recorder and percussion.
