The Lady Royals finally got going in the bottom of the third and loaded the bases with nobody out. They brought home a pair to go ahead 2-1.
The Hornets threatened again in the fourth, tying the game at 2-2 but leaving the bases loaded.

Blosser led the offense with three of EMU’s seven hits.
EMU 9, Lynchburg 0 – 5 innings
Box Score
The nightcap of the doubleheader had all the making of a pitchers’ duel between Molly Smith (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) and Lynchburg’s Caitlin Dolby. Smith didn’t allow a baserunner until the third and although the Lady Royals were getting runners on, they couldn’t score.
But all that changed in the bottom of the third. Brooke Hensley (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) led off with a single and Lee walked. Smith cracked a double to deep center field and EMU quickly jumped to a 2-0 lead.
The hits and walks kept coming as the women sent 14 batters to the plate and brought nine of them home. Jessica Sullivan (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) added a two-run double and Smith had another double, this time with the bases loaded to bring in three more runs.
The 9-0 lead was all Smith needed on the mound, as the freshman allowed just two hits in the five-inning win as well as one hit batsman.
Smith picked up the complete game victory to improve to 4-3. She was also 2-3 from the dish, with her two doubles and five RBIs all coming in the third inning.
Hensley and Sullivan each finished with two hits as well. Hensley and Lee, who walked twice, both scored two runs in the big outburst.
With another set of impressive wins, Eastern Mennonite improves to 13-7 with the eight-game winning streak. The Lady Royals are now 6-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with all their wins coming against teams picked to finish in the top four in the preseason poll.
Next up for EMU is an ODAC doubleheader with Randolph College Wednesday afternoon in Harrisonburg. First pitch at Gehman Field is 3:00pm.
