Dr. Vigen Guroian, professor of theology at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md.
The language and literature department is featuring novelist Vigen Guroian at its first “Writers Read” program of the second (spring) semester.
Dr. Guroian, who is also a professor of theology at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md., will read from his works 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 in Martin Chapel of the seminary building at EMU.
Guroian has written nine books, his most recent “The Fragrance of God” (Eerdmans, 2006), which chronicles not only the changing seasons but also the course of his own life as he and his family moved from Maryland to a home in Culpeper near the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
Other titles include “Rallying the Really Human Thing: The Moral Imagination in Politics, Literature and Everyday Life” (ISI Books, 2005), “How Shall We Remember: Reflections on the Armenian Genocide and Church Faith (Montreal, 2005) and “Incarnate Love: Essays in Orthodox Ethics” (Notre Dame Press, 2002).
The author is a fellow of the Wilberforce Forum, a Christian political and social think tank and action group under the Prison Fellowship Ministries founded by Chuck Colson.
He has published more than one hundred and fifty articles in books, journals, and encyclopedias on a range of subjects including Orthodox theology, marriage and family, children’s literature, education, politics, ecology, genocide, liturgy and medical ethics.
Guroian received his BA degree from the University of Virginia and a PhD in theology from Drew University.
