Walker and Washington named All-ODAC

A pair of EMU women’s basketball players have earned all-conference recognition for their play this season, as both Myneshia Walker (Freeman, Va./Brunswick) and Jess Washington (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) were voted onto the All-ODAC Third Team.

It is the second straight ODAC award for Walker, who earned All-ODAC Second Team last year. The versatile guard missed the first five games of her senior season with an injury, but still led the Royals with 11.4 points per game. Walker was third on the team with 4.5 rebounds per game and picked out 22 steals. She shot 41.5% from the floor and scored a season high 27 points against regular season champion Emory & Henry on Jan. 27. Over her four seasons at Eastern Mennonite, Walker started 66 games and finished with 955 career points, 387 rebounds, 125 assists and 102 steals.

In her second season as a starter, Washington blossomed into one of the most athletic forwards in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The 5-10 junior averaged 10.6 points and 8.0 rebounds, utilizing her speed on offense to shoot 43.8% from the floor. Washington was sixth in the ODAC with her rebounding average and grabbed a team high 25 steals. She had a career game in a 72-67 win over rival Bridgewater on Jan. 16, exploding for career highs of 21 points and 20 rebounds.

The Royals finished the 2017-18 season with a record of 13-12, including 8-8 in the ODAC. They earned impressive wins over Lynchburg (64-59 at LC) and Randolph-Macon (60-54 at EMU), the teams tied for second in the ODAC standings.
