Two track and field athletes took top athlete of the week honors in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Grant Amoateng (Bristow, Va./Patriot) was named the ODAC Field Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this year. This is Amoateng’s second weekly honor in the outdoor season after two from the indoor season. Connor Faint (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) earned a gold medal at two different track meets last weekend, and was named the ODAC Track Athlete of the Week.
Both athletes had strong performances across two meets over the weekend. Amoateng opened at the Doc Jopson Invitational
hosted by Bridgewater College on Friday. He won the triple jump at 13.96m (45ft-9.75in), which ranks lower than only his personal season-best marks on the ODAC triple jump lists. He added a leap of 6.49m (21ft-3.50in) to place second in the long jump. Faint won the 400m at 49.72 seconds, just missing his own personal-record despite marking his fastest showing in the event this season. That time ranks fifth on the ODAC season chart.
Then at the George Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday, Amoateng exploded for a bounding leap of 14.71m (48ft-3.25in) in the triple jump to place third overall in the large D-I dominated meet. That mark is sixth best in NCAA D-III, tops in the ODAC this season by more than three feet, and ranks as his new personal-best. He also improved his long jump from the previous day to 6.55m (21ft-6.00in), placing third in the event. His PR in that event is 6.79m (22ft-3.50in).
Faint placed first with a time of 52.12 seconds. That is second only this season to his previous ODAC-best and nationally second-ranked mark of 51.89 seconds. In fact, his 52.12-second performance is still better than the time currently ranked third in NCAA D-III.
Overall, this is Amoateng’s fifth ODAC Athlete of the Week honor, including one from his sophomore season.
This is Faint’s his fourth Athlete of the Week honor, including his second this season.
The Royals are preparing for this weekend’s ODAC Championships, hosting by Bridgewater on Friday and Saturday.
