Eastern Mennonite University sophomore jumper Grant Amoateng (Bristow, Va./Patriot) earned his first weekly honor from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, being named today as the ODAC Field Athlete of the Week for men’s track & field.
Amoateng competed in three events at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational over the weekend. He kept his name atop the ODAC lists in the triple jump by placing sixth overall at 14.24m (46ft 8.75in). That equalled his previous season-best mark, which ranks No. 13 in NCAA Division III. Amoateng added a ninth place showing in the long jump at 6.41m (21ft 0.50in), and took a turn on the track in the 100m dash, where he finished 25th overall at :11.32 seconds.
Amoateng already has three All-ODAC honors from the triple and long jumps over his first two indoor seasons. He is shooting for his first outdoor honor this spring.
This is the fourth ODAC weekly honor this year for the EMU men’s track & field program, with hurdler Connor Faint (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) winning twice earlier this outdoor season and senior Alec Thibodeaux (Mount Sidney, Va./Fort Defiance) claiming it once during the indoor season.
Eastern Mennonite’s men and women are gearing up for the ODAC Championships on April 21 and 22, hosted by Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va.
