EMU’s basketball women have been well-rewarded in the postseason conference honors, as three women have been named All-ODAC. It’s the highest number of Royals players honored since they had four in 2013-14.
One of the top scoring teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, Eastern Mennonite has three women in the top 17 in the ODAC in scoring. The trio were the three voted All-ODAC by the league’s coaches.
Junior Myneshia Walker (Freeman, Va./Brunswick) landed on the All-ODAC Second Team. The 5-7 guard is eighth in the conference in scoring, averaging 14.8 per game. She is top-nine in the ODAC not only in both three pointers and free throws, but also in the shooting percentage for each category. Walker is 14th with 6.7 rebounds per game. She tied or broke her career high for points five times this season, including a high of 30 in a Feb. 1 win over Virginia Wesleyan. Walker scored 20 or more points five times.
Named to the All-ODAC Third Team, senior Jonae Guest (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) is having an incredible final season at Eastern Mennonite, nearly averaging a double double at 11.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. She is third in the ODAC in rebounds, sixth with a 50.2% shooting clip, and seventh with 22 blocked shots. The Royals had a record of 13-3 after Christmas, triggered by Guest picking up her play. The 6-2 center had all 11 of her double doubles during the stretch, averaging 14.6 points and 9.6 rebounds.
Freshman Chloe Roach (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) made an immediate impact, scoring 20 points against nationally-ranked Christopher Newport in her first collegiate game. She was named to the All-ODAC Third Team and was just one of two freshmen among the 18 players honored by the conference. Roach scored in double figures in all but four of her games, including 20 or more six times. Her 16.0 scoring clip is sixth in the ODAC, but the multi-dimension guard is also sixth in the ODAC with 60 steals and seventh with 86 assists. Roach set career highs with 30 points and nine assists in the regular season finale against Lynchburg.
With just three upperclassmen on the roster, Eastern Mennonite went 17-7 in the regular season, including 12-4 in the ODAC. The Royals are the No. 4 seed in this weekend’s ODAC Tournament and play No. 5 Randolph-Macon Friday afternoon at 3:00pm in the Salem Civic Center.
The women’s semifinals are Saturday evening with the championship on Sunday afternoon.
