The Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir, under the direction of Janet Hostetter, will present “Rising on Wings of Song” Sunday, April 10 at 4 p.m. at Eastern Mennonite University’s Lehman Auditorium.
The concert will feature hammered dulcimer player Timothy Seaman and Celtic harpist Ann Robinson from Williamsburg, Virginia.
Music selections will include multiple styles ranging from classical to jazz and contain world music samples ranging from Venezuelan to African. Arrangements of folksongs, accompanied by Seaman and Robinson, will also be featured.
“Reel a’ Bouche,” a French-Canadian mouth music piece arranged by Malcolm Dalglish, is a dance tune accompanied by hammered dulcimers. Riley Maas, Brianna Bence and Abby Blaylock will be soloists.
“Bring Me Little Water, Silvy” by Huddie Ledbetter is an American folksong featuring body percussion.
“Manx Lullaby,” arranged by Lori-Anne Dolloff is a lullaby from the Isle of Man accompanied by flute and Celtic harp.
The advanced musicianship class will be presenting their arrangement of the traditional American song, “Down in the River to Pray.”
The concert will conclude with a rousing spiritual by Rosephanye Powell entitled “Still I Rise,” with Ben Elliott and Cori Beth Luebke-Brown as soloists.
