Senior Becca Hardy (Port Republic, Va./Eastern Mennonite) has been named to the District V Academic All-District Team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She is now eligible for CoSIDA’s Academic All-America voting.
A four-year starter for EMU’s volleyball women, Hardy holds a 3.94 GPA with a double major in business administration and accounting. She led the Royals with 2.50 kills/set, 220 kills, .335 attack percentage and 53 blocks. The middle/right side finished the season third in the ODAC and 48th in the nation in attack percentage. She was also eighth in the ODAC with 15 solo blocks.
In the classroom, Hardy is a regular on EMU’s Dean’s List, the ODAC All-Academic Team and Royals All-Academic Team. She studied in Myanmar this past summer, teaching English and completing a project on Myanmar’s national tax system.
Coach Carrie Bert said that she rarely sees Hardy without a book or a volleyball in her hands.
“Becca is consistent, hard-working, and has high expectations for herself in everything she does,” Bert explained. “As one of our captains, she modeled goal-setting, study skills, integrity, hard work, consistency, sustained performance, competitiveness, and a commitment to be the best player and student she could be.”
The criteria for the All-District program states that a player must be of sophomore academic standing, be a starter or important reserve and claim a GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. Eastern Mennonite is a member of District 5, which includes players from NCAA D-III institutions in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Only eight women’s volleyball players were honored from District 5, including three from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
