Pianist and professor Paulo Steinberg of EMU
Pianist and professor Paulo Steinberg discussed the relation between culture and music in Brazil during a two-night lecure and recital at EMU on April 13-14.
Steinberg covered a variety of aspects and musical styles, ranging from Brazilian Tangos to melancholy moments, from pieces influenced by Bach to vibrant and exuberant samba-influenced works.
Brazilian composers such as Villa-Lobos, Nazareth, Guarnieri and Fernandez were presented and performed by Steinberg and EMU students and faculty.
During the performances, illustrations on powerpoint helped the audience capture the “Brazilian spirit” with pictures of Brazilian landscapes, information about Brazilian composers and culture, and drawings by young students from the Preparatory Music Department.
Performers and audience wore colors of the Brazilian flag – green, yellow, blue and white.
